How Does a Solar Panel Work?

Collect The Energy

1. Collect The Energy

Solar panels collect energy from the sun through PV modules

power

2. Convert the power

The inverter converts DC to AC current

3. Transmit the power

Transmit the power from the solar station to the Electrical grid

What is solar energy?

Solar energy is the energy from the sun in the form of light and heat. It is a renewable resource that can be used to generate electricity, heat buildings, and store energy.

A typical solar energy system in Bangladesh is expected to last around 20-30 years, with solar panels generally having a lifespan of 25-30 years, gradually producing less electricity over time as they degrade, but still functioning at a lower capacity even after their prime lifespan.

The cost of a solar energy system in Bangladesh can vary depending on factors such as the system’s size, brand, and type of installation (residential or commercial). Here’s a rough estimate:

  • Residential Solar Systems (3kW to 5kW):
The cost for a residential solar system typically ranges from BDT 120,000 to BDT 300,000 (approximately $1,000 to $2,500). A 3kW system may cost around BDT 120,000, while a 5kW system can cost around BDT 250,000 to BDT 300,000.

  • Commercial Solar Systems:
For larger systems, such as those needed for businesses, the cost increases significantly. A system for a commercial facility may range from BDT 500,000 to BDT 2,000,000 or more, depending on the capacity (from 10kW to 100kW or higher).

In addition to the initial setup cost, there might be installation and maintenance charges. Government subsidies or incentives could also reduce the cost, as the Bangladeshi government has been encouraging renewable energy use, especially for solar power.

A solar panel installation process typically involves: assessing the site, installing mounting structures on the roof, securing the solar panels to the mounts, connecting the panels electrically to an inverter, wiring the inverter to the home’s electrical system, and finally, testing the system to ensure proper functionalitythis process usually requires a licensed electrician to handle the electrical wiring.
